Caboolture, 4510, sits on the northern bank of the Caboolture River where the Bruce and D’Aguilar highways meet, a short run south of Beerwah and the Glass House Country. It falls in the City of Moreton Bay rather than on the Sunshine Coast proper, and we cover it the same way as everywhere else we work: a free site measure, published rates and one fixed written quote.
Much of the town is river country. The flats near the Caboolture River carry deep alluvial soil, soft going that asks for a properly built up and compacted base, while the higher ground runs to shallower profiles, and the river has a long record of flash flooding. On ground like this the falls are decided first and the slab follows, so stormwater leaves the driveway and the house instead of sitting against either.
The work splits by the age of the street. Around the town centre and the established estates, original driveways are reaching the end of their life, and the common job is a full driveway replacement: old slab out, base rebuilt, new reinforced concrete in, often a little wider than the car the house was designed around. Out past Bellmere the story runs the other way. The Waraba growth area west of town is planned for around 25,000 homes, and every one of them needs a first driveway, the alfresco slab the floor plan assumed and side paths down before the turf.
North and west toward Elimbah, Moodlu and Wamuran the blocks open out to acreage, and the concrete changes scale with them: long driveway runs priced by the metre, and shed and garage slabs poured to the supplier’s drawings with thickened edges where the load will sit.
Exposed aggregate suits the newer frontages, and broom finished plain concrete does the working surfaces. Book the driveway and the shed slab together and the smaller pour comes in lower, since the pump, the truck and the crew are paid for once. Each service’s range is published on the rates guide, and the build standard spells out the base, the steel and the thickness you are paying for.
