What moves the metre rate
Concreting is priced by the square metre, but the metre rate is not one number. It moves with five things, and an honest quote itemises them.
Size. A truck, a crew and a day cost the same for 15 m² as for 60 m², so small jobs carry a higher rate. Pairing jobs, a path with the driveway, a shed slab with the patio, is the single best way to buy concrete cheaper.
Removal. Breaking out and tipping the old surface is its own line in the quote. Pavers come out faster than reinforced concrete; asphalt is in between.
Access and slope. Where the truck cannot reach the pour, concrete is pumped or barrowed, and that is labour. Tight infill sites and the hinterland's sloping blocks budget 10 to 20 percent extra.
Finish. Plain grey, oxide colour and exposed aggregate step up in that order. The finish only changes the top; the base, steel and thickness underneath stay the same, and they are where the money should go first.
Ground. Sandy beachside blocks need proper compaction; hinterland clay moves with the seasons and asks more of the base and joints. Where the ground needs base material brought in and compacted, that is quoted up front rather than discovered later.
The estate factor
In Aura and Harmony, developer covenants generally rule out undecorated plain grey driveways, which moves those jobs into the coloured and exposed aggregate ranges. Budget accordingly if you are building in either estate, and check the design guidelines for your release.

Questions
Rate questions
How much does concreting cost per m2 on the Sunshine Coast?
Plain grey broom finished concrete sits at the bottom of the range, coloured work in the middle, and exposed aggregate and pool surrounds at the top, supplied and laid. The table on this page publishes the current range for every service. Prices may vary with site conditions and variations; the written quote after a site measure is fixed.
Why do small jobs cost more per square metre?
A truck, a crew and a day cost the same to mobilise for 15 m² as for 60 m², so small pours carry a higher metre rate. Pairing jobs, a path with the driveway or a shed slab with the patio, is the single best way to buy concrete cheaper.
What makes one concreting quote cheaper than another?
Almost always the preparation. A cheap quote cuts corners under the slab or uses lighter steel. It looks identical on day one and cracks within a few summers. Ask every quote to state the base, the mesh and the thickness in writing, and compare them against the build standard published on this site.
Does removing old concrete cost extra?
Yes. Breaking out and disposing of the old surface is itemised in the written quote rather than appearing as a variation on the day. Pavers come out faster than reinforced concrete, so the removal line moves with what is there.
Are council fees included?
No. A standard crossover needs no permit on the Sunshine Coast or in Noosa Shire, so most jobs carry no council fee at all. Where a crossover is non standard and needs council approval, the application fee belongs to the council, changes each financial year, and is identified with the quote.
